Like moths to a flame, we return to the Muskbag. If you don’t believe these things can keep getting increasingly more stupid, prepare to be amazed.

I always love when people less competent than I am get canned. It also helps when they’re uneducated, loudmouth jackasses. So imagine my joy when I heard that, Mike North, the radio equivalent of Jay Mariotti was done at the Score. Let’s get something straight. This will not make me start listening to the Score. Quite frankly, I find sports radio infuriating. If I wanted to listen to stupid people fielding questions from even more stupid people, I’d read the Muskbag out loud. Still, it’s fun seeing a egomaniac cut down at the knees. Let’s check out what North had to say about his axing.

I know several of you tried to make the Muskbag this week (including me). My question didn’t make it. Did yours?

I do. I was helping my buddy Mike move out of his townhouse in South Elgin. He and his wife were moving to Arizona. Everything was packed, so of course we had no TV or radio to follow. I had checked in to the game and heard the Cubs winning 3-1. Big Z was on the hill, and things looked good. Even Pat and Ron were looking ahead, which should have been my sign that I didn’t deserve to be surprised when, at the end of moving day, I learned that they had lost.

And that was the last time the Cubs have lost at home. Mike has raised a family, put his kids through school, and retired since that day. Or so it seems. A fourteen game-winning streak, over the span of over five weeks can really make it feel that way.

That’s right, nerds and perverts. It’s your old pal Jay Mariotti here. I’m back, baby! Three more years of Jay! It’s a lucky day for Chicago!

PICTURE REDACTED, BECAUSE OF THIS GUY —>
It happens all the time during that glorious time of year that is the Major League Baseball season. I get out of work around 6:00 or 6:15, I start my drive home, and I get stuck in traffic. 6:30 rolls around, and I’m still wending my way home, when I get the urge, against my better instincts, to tune my radio to AM 720 for the “WGN Cubs Radio 720 (deep breath) Cubs Central Pregame.” Why? Why do I do this to myself? I guess I have the hope that Sweet Uncle Lou will have at least one hilarious quote during the Lou Piniella Show, but at what cost do I wait for it? The pregame is absolutely maddening, and it’s the same goddamn thing every single time. As a favor to myself, to everyone else tired of the banality of the pregame show, and to the out-of-town readers who don’t have the torment privilege of listening to the show, I’ve boiled it down from you in nice, condensed form. Instead of spending the half hour listening to the show every game, just go ahead and read this handy post before every game.

You’re welcome.

The Muskbag had taken a long hiatus, but it’s back, and it’s as high-quality as ever! You know what that means. It sucks!

One guy provides studio commentary for the Cubs on Comcast Sports Net. The other used to do the same job for Fox Sports Net. Both are veteran southpaws who spent part of their playing career with the Cubs.

Let’s face it. There was really only one reason to be disappointed that the Cubs lost last night. And that was because we didn’t get the opportunity to see Len Kasper with a mustache (awesome work, guys) and Bob Brenly without one. The guys on Comcast Photoshopped a pretty sweet facial hair swap between the two, but I’d like to see what you deviants can do with it. So, it’s a theme Photoshop! The theme is “Len and/or Bob’s facial hair.” Below is a possible image you might want to use if you don’t want to hunt for one, but don’t feel obligated to use any part of it. Go nuts.

There’s only one thing frustrating about having the Cubs emerge as one of the dominant forces in baseball. More success means more interest. More interest means more coverage. More coverage means more Steve Rosenbloom. At one point in our lives, we all had as much baseball knowledge as Steve Rosenbloom. At that point, I had Transformers sheets. You were probably watching The Smurfs and driving a Big Wheel. Fortunately, I was able to translate Rosenbloom’s latest crap from Douche to English.
