Cubs Infield Not Fond Of “Carlos Zambrano Day”
Not much you can say about last night’s game. It’s clear where they’re at. Here’s hoping we’re still talking baseball Monday and that’ll depend on what happens at Dodger Stadium this weekend.
Happy Carlos Zambrano Day!
It’s simple.
The Lawnmower gains control, or else the Cubs will need a miracle. So we’re not at “praying for a miracle” yet. We haven’t used that card. No sir. Not yet.
And any of you sackless spazzes that want DOOM, please just leave and never come back. Seriously.
Fill In the Blanks
So now that everything but home-field advantage has been settled–and, truthfully this, too should be settled in the Cubs’ favor before the weekend–we’ve got a week to turn our attention to the postseason. Today, let’s look at what the postseason roster may look like.
This Is What A Division Champion Looks Like
Okay, so this was really just an excuse to exploit my daughter for personal “aawwwww” effect. Something magical?
MVP! MVP! MVP!

Of course, it’s hard to give the award to a player whose team squeaks into the playoffs with 85 wins.
Conversely, it’s hard to give it to one player on [...]
Jason’s Last Stand?
A week ago, we sized up the final six weeks of the Cubs’ season and developed a scenario where the Cubs could have the division wrapped up with a week to go, where they could spend that final week setting up their playoff rotation while also playing spoiler to the Brewers and Mets.
The first phase [...]
81 Wins…And It’s Not Even Labor Day Yet?
.500 seasons are rare for us. It wasn’t until 2004 that the Cubs enjoyed back-to-back .500 seasons for the first time since 1972, which also happened to be the year I was born. In that time, the Cubs finished a season .500 or better a ten times–with last night’s thrashing of Pittsburgh [...]
It’s Beginning To Feel Alot Like October
Okay folks. Make your plans. While those of us at Hire Jim Essian have been quietly confident in this Cubs team the entire season–often needing to beat back a lot of the shrieking pantywaists who oddly feel entitled to that ever-rare totally stress-free 162-game season– I feel I can now boldly proclaim, without [...]
