Friday Night Fukudome: Lee Elia vs. Lou Piniella

Despite my desires to ignore the whole thing, it looks like Tuesday’s 25-year anniversary of Lee Elia’s rant is going to be shoved down all of our throats. Might as well embrace it. Who had a better Cub meltdown? Elia or Lou Piniella? You be the judge.

Which two are on your NLDS roster?

Oh God, there’s some great lines in that Elia rant. “They can kiss my ass, right downtown, and PRINT IT!”

I’ve used pieces of the rant as a ringtone. It’s pretty fantastic. Lee’s angry speech ranks up there with Clark Griswold’s in “Christmas Vacation”.

I don’t know how Elia stacks up at Kicking the Hat (Lou appears to hit each of his attempts with a Jedi-like leg control) but I don’t know how Lou could have dropped more ‘fu#$s’ while he chatted with the umpires. The radio interview was quite the stream of consciousness, wasn’t it?

OK - ‘fess up - are any of the mighty 3,000 cocksuckers that he mentioned here on HJE? Or maybe you know someone who was at the game…

Thanks for posting both of those - they’re grrrrreat.

Embrace it, Kerm.

I’d kind of like to see Lou go an a similar tirade against all the Chads and Trixies, the It’s Gonna Happen guy, and every douche bag frat tard on a cell phone waving to his friends on the teevee

Yeah, that’s the first one I always think of too.

Elia, because he pronounces it “criterier” and misuses “negate.” And because of the oft cited phrase “this is a real disheartening situation.”

Both of them are legendary. I had to vote for Lou’s explosion, though, because it turned the 2007 entire season around. And kicking dirt is hilarious.
