Ain’t Nothing Left but the Crying

That’s it, boys. It’s all over. Pack it in.Well, it took nearly five months, but it’s all over. Now that The Bottom 126 is finished, I figured I’d give you folks a chance to leave the “You missed this guy!” and “Why is this guy ranked so high?” and “But he had 200 hits!” comments in one thread. I think I will leisurely go through the list, update some of the older posts (which have less content, since I didn’t realize anyone was actually reading the list), possibly move a couple of guys around, and update the B126 sidebar to provide direct links to every one of the guys. I guess a good strategy would be to only provide a direct link to the guy once I’ve updated his post, so that’s what I’ll do. I also might move the B126 sidebar so that it has its own page at the top of the screen once I start the new series.

I’ll probably take about a week or so off to recover before I start the new list. Details on the new series will be revealed in just a few moments.

It’s been fun debating with you, hearing your stories, and watching you guys flex your outstanding memories for some of these guys. Thanks for keeping me on my toes and keeping me motivated to go through 126 of these entries. So, go ahead. Fire away in the comments.

WORST PICTURE EVER.

Bo Porter, Brian Williams, Courtney Duncan, Joey Nation, Andrew Lorraine, Phil Norton? Wait, Norton is on the list; isn’t he? Uhh, I know I am forgetting many more.

Freddy Guzman? Or who was the guy that gave up that grand slam to the Cardinals during that first double-header in September of ‘03?

NFD: According to Retrosheet, it was Felix Sanchez. The game was the day after the double-header, though. The Cubs did end up winning the game 8-7, rallying from a 6-0 deficit, so it probably wasn’t that bad. (Also, Sanchez pitched a total of 1 2/3 innings over three games for the Cubs, which probably made him too insignificant to make the list.)

That was his name. Thanks. I totally forgot. I did remember that game though. Sosa hit the walk-off in extras. But yeah, I didn’t know what Dusty was thinking sticking in some kid to try to get out of that situation.

Just to reiterate what a bunch of other ppl have already said … Bad Kermit, you should publish The Bottom 126! If you don’t I’m just going to print them all out, take them to Kinko’s and collate them motherf@#$%^s! :-)

I’d buy the book. If Jayson Stark can publish one about the most overrated players of all-time, I don’t see why this couldn’t see the light of day. What Cubs fan under 50 wouldn’t want one?

Scott Servais and Manny Alexander. Those guys were pure garbage.

Danny Jackson deserved his own entry, i also will never have forget putting Goose Gossage’s baseball card in a Cubs uniform in my bike spokes like I grew up in the 50’s or something. So yeah,, those two. Lance Johnson as well, he blew.

I miss that one guy that had the blog talking about black athletes marrying his white women.

Cue “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” by Boyz II Men……

Overall outstanding list. I can’t say there’s anyone I’d argue with not being included. Maybe a special entry for the 1989 Topps Ty Griffin baseball card. Not Ty Griffin himself, just that card.

I freaking love this site… its the only way I make it through my work day, that and a water bottle filled with ketel one. Know what I don’t love though? Sosa’s butt buddy Manny Alexander and while you’re adding people, add Alex Arias to the list too. Great site, horrible memories.

Thanks Jay, Scott Servais must be on there, along with Manny “Called Strike 3″ Alexander.

I think jskibs just offered up another great testimonial for your site.
