Tonight Is Must-Watch Baseball

Postseason

I rub his bald head for good luck!I don’t have too much interest in the World Series this year. The Phillies were just in it last year, and it feels like the Yankees are always in it, even when they aren’t. But I will be tuning in to Game Two of the World Series tonight. Long time Yankee nemesis Pedro Martinez is taking the mound against A.J. Burnett. Say what you will about Yankees fans, but that park gets loud and crazy during the postseason, and the matchup tonight should blow the doors off the place. I don’t know if it will get louder if Pedro gets lit up or if it’s a 1-1 ballgame and Pedro is pitching in the 7th with runners on base. Either way, it should make for some fun baseball tonight.

Pedro was terrific in Game Two of the NLCS (his only postseason start this year), pitching 7 strong innings against the Dodgers, allowing only 2 hits and 0 runs.

Pedro has never pitched in the new Yankee Stadium. The last time he faced the Yankees was in old Yankee Stadium in 2005, while Pedro was a member of the Mets. Pedro gave up only 2 earned runs in 8 innings as he out-dueled Mike Mussina.

Pedro’s most-recent appearance in Yankee Stadium before that was a certain clinching game of a certain 2004 ALCS. Pedro pitched an inning of relief of Derek Lowe in a 10-3 Red Sox blowout that sent them to the World Series.

I know the Blackhawks and Bulls are both on tonight, but if you’re flipping around during commercials, Fox might have some excitement in store for you. Hell, at least there’s a chance that Ozzie Guillen will get a swear past the censors at some point.

Seeing how loud Yankee Stadium gets makes me pissed because I know the Ricketteses will just renovate Wrigley Field, instead of building a new 57,000 seat stadium.

As little use as I have for mindless traditions, I don’t think anyone has the balls to yank the Cubs out of Wrigley.

On the other hand, to hear the noise we have to hear the voices of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. So, there’s that.

They should have a radio station that just plays the sounds of the game (no announcers) – I would actually listen to commercials to support that radio station.

/Of course, they would figure out a way to ruin it within a couple of games – the PA system would just be constant commercials.

//I would subscribe to Sirius if they had something like this, that’s how much Tim McCarver sucks.

Maybe Don Zimmer will be in the crowd and pull a “Billy Ligue” on Pedro!

    Anything could happen!!!
