The firing of hitting coach Von Joshua was the latest in a series of pointless moves by Jim Hendry this season. For those of you still interested in discussing the 2009 Cubs, here’s a topic of conversation for you.
Are there any pointless moves I missed?

David Patton. Took up a roster spot and didn’t pitch. On the rare occasion, when the moon was full and Saturn and Jupiter were in allignment, he was pretty bad.
Can’t say that Aaron Miles was “pointless.” “incredibly negative” or “completely dumbass” but not “pointless.” He was around the whole damn year.
@Ethan – Damn. Forgot about Patton. I’ll add him, because I think he’ll garner some serious votes.
Except the month to 2 months he was on the DL
@Irish Yeti – I still don’t quite understand why it can’t be “pointless” even if he was around the whole year.
It was “actively negative.”
Maybe I’m just letting my absolute hatred of Aaron Miles color my judgment.
I voted Miles because I hate him.
Maybe the retiring of Maddux’s number should receive an honorable mention. Not sure why he’s honored as a Cub, but, if I were Jenkins, I would be insulted.
I got the joy of being able to heckle Miles close up when he rehabbed here in Des Moines, he is truly a piece of shit
@Mike –
I agree, #31 should have been retired long ago, Fergie made HOF in 91 and they just now got around to retiring his number? They did it for Ryno right away. Maddux is awesome, but he will be remember as a Brave.
I don’t know how you can vote for firing Von Joshua if you don’t also want to vote for firing Gerald Perry. After all, they occupied the same position. Those two moves were equally pointless.
What about bringing Gabor Paul Bako to training camp? That was pretty pointless, wasn’t it?
How about calling up minor league “prospect” So Taguchi?
Here’s another one: signing BJ Ryan. There’s just so many to choose from this year.
Where is, “Waking up every day and going to work” on this list?
I picked the wrong season to quit sniffing glue
what about all the talk of getting left handed batters to help us in the post season?
I voted for Joey Gathright because he didn’t jump over any cars, which means there was no point to him being on the roster.
Jim Hendry’s most pointless move of the 2009 season was when he decided to stay on as the teams GM.
Miles. Because he was the most useless player on the team.At least when Bradley was up he might get a walk or something. What happened to Miles anyway? Did Lilly take him somewhere and buried him alive in a cornfield
The one that really had no point one way or the other was Fox. I mean, what was the possible best-case scenario there? All of those were ridiculous, but most at least had a “point.”
@santo10 – Clearly they didn’t retire it because the Cubs organization is racist
I voted for Chad Fox because I got depressed as soon as I heard Hendry was gonna make us all watch him have another career ending injury.
In fairness to Jim, at least he did re-sign Ryan Dempster for less than 25% over Market Value.
Considering everything else that went down. This was probably his Sagest move.
UGH…..
A lot of these were negatives. I took “most useless” as “zero impact”.
That makes Chad Fox the “winner.”
@Mike – I was thinking the same thing when I watched it on TV. Maddux was a great pitcher and I’m glad I got to see him pitch in a Cubs uniform but he’s a hall of famer for the Braves, not the Cubs.
I was a little insulted by this. Why couldn’t they Fergie his own day? This was WAAAYYY overdue. Too little, too late fits perfectly here.
Santo gets a day every other month and Fergie (who was important that Santo) has to share one.
Hendry couldn’t score enough coke and broads for a Fergie party.
I don’t think firing The German was pointless at all, I still blame him for the Soto BP oblique injury. His stupid “Whizzer” contraption or whatever the phuck it’s called where he set’s the pitching machine on 100MPH 40 feet away from the plate is completely stupid. Yeah you heard me Von – I’ll shorten YOUR swing, asshole. Good ridens.
