Oh, holy hell… this can go a few different ways:

1) He comes in. Sucks. Goes away again.
2) He never sees the major league roster because he can’t throw above 85 MPH anymore,
3) He goes to the bullpen, pitches well through slight-of-hand and deception, becomes a hero, the Gaetti-Glasses go on, and he gets signed again for 2010 at a ridiculous price.
4) He goes to the bullpen, pitches like crap, but not as crappy as Neal Cotts, so we don’t hate him as much, but still costs a few games.
5) He regains his stuff and becomes a valuable member of our bullpen.

By my reckoning, even if all of those options are weighted evenly, this has a 20% chance of working out for the Cubs.

Of course, I said that about Edmonds too, but I think we used up all the good mojo on that deal.
