I like the All-Star Game. I think it’s a terrific event, a nice break in the season, and the only All-Star Game in the major sports about which anyone gives a damn. However, I am not a fan of the All-Star Game meaning anything more than mid-season entertainment. When Bud Selig made the All-Star Game “count” for home-field advantage in the World Series, and then still allowed the unwashed, uneducated masses to vote in the players who would be playing in the game, well, that was just another stupid decision in the many that Bud has made during his tenure as Commissioner of Baseball. Right now, Alfonso Soriano is FOURTH in fan voting for the National League outfield. That’s absolutely terrible. So, let’s do what we can to put our differences with other players aside to help the Senior Circuit actually win an All-Star Game. Vote often (up to 25 times). Not to influence your decision, but here is my ballot:
NATIONAL LEAGUE
1B: A. Pujols, STL
2B: C. Utley, PHI
SS: H. Ramirez, FLA
3B: P. Sandoval, SF (fuck you, D. Wright, Sandoval’s playing better)
C: B. McCann, ATL
OF: R. Braun, MIL
OF: R. Ibanez, PHI
OF: B. Hawpe, COL
Write-In: P. Fielder, MIL, 1B OOPS. (See comments)
AMERICAN LEAGUE
1B: M. Jacobs, KC
2B: A. Casilla, MIN
SS: C. Izturis, BAL
3B: J. Fields, CWS
C: D. Navarro, TB
OF: C. Guillen, DET
OF: D. Wise, CWS
OF: B. Francisco, CLE
Write-In: M. Barrett, TOR, C (it wouldn’t let me write in F. Pie) OOPS. (See comments)
Bulletproof.

I see why they wouldn’t let me vote for Pie. Because MLB.com sucks as badly as it usually does, so my votes for NL 1B and AL C won’t “stick” for some reason. Eat shit, MLB.com.
I thought this was a very funny line:
“When Bud Selig made the All-Star Game “count” for home-field advantage in the World Series, and then still allowed the unwashed, uneducated masses to vote in the players who would be playing in the game, well, that was just another stupid decision in the many that Bud has made during his tenure as Commissioner of Baseball.”
I found it even funnier when I see you screwed up the ballot. The reason your NL 1B and your AL C spots won’t “stick” is because you wrote in Fielder and Barrett. You can’t vote for Pujols for 1st base and then write-in Prince. Where is he going to play?
@Jay – Good point. Maybe I should vote for a point guard as my write-in. They do have bench slots in this game, you know. I’m surprised we’re not allowed to vote for a back-up.
Your NL ballot is alright, but I’ll take
- Wright over Sandoval. They’ve got similar offensive numbers, but Wright is faster (possibly due to Sandoval pushing 3 bills) and a better defender, even if he does have a girl face. Sorry to stick a banana in the tailpipe of your Wright Hatemobile.
- Upton over Braun. Again it’s pretty close on the offensive side, but Upton gets the speed/defense edge. And he doesn’t market shirts with barf-inspired designs. And I don’t hate his guts.
Your AL ballot, on the other hand, is a masterpiece of suck. Carlos Guillen is on there as an outfielder? How did I miss this hilarious position change?
@Bad Kermit – Maybe it rejected your vote because you voted for Fat Prince instead of the better player, Adrian Gonzalez, as a backup.
@RV – I almost put Upton on there. Wright is a good choice, but I just don’t like him, and Sandoval is close enough for me to continue driving the Hatemobile.
Sandoval? Pass. Despite his shitty AVG and high Ks, it should probably be Mark Reynolds. Or if not him, then Ryan Zimmerman. And Wright is still having a better year than Sandoval, but he just isn’t hitting HRs. I’ll take his glove and speed over Sandoval’s fat ass waddling around the field.
@Bad Kermit – Braun deserves to be there before Upton. The only reason Upton would be a better bet is because he could play CF. However, if you’re going to take someone off to make room for Upton, it should be Hawpe. Look at his numbers on the road (.282/.364/.534) compared to the numbers at Coors (.404/.463/.702) and you once again have a average to above-average OF looking like a superstar because of those mountains.
“Wright is a good choice, but I just don’t like him, and Sandoval is close enough for me to continue driving the Hatemobile.”
I wonder why you hate him, Kermit. I would be willing to give you 5 large that says you would invite him over to give him backrubs and whirlpool baths if he played for the Cubs. The blatant jealousy of New York and our amazing new ballpark is so obvious I can touch it. Stop being such a jealous Chicago fan.
BTW, remember our Kerry Wood argument, when I proved to you that there are 10 pitchers in baseball who I’d take over Kerry “dead armed starter” Wood? (Guess I win that argument, eh? – I told you I’d fly you to Cooperstown when he gets inducted – I’m thinking the only way he gets there is if he takes a wrong turn at Buffalo) Well, give me 10 guys you’d take over my man David. I don’t care who’s hot right now, Kermit – I want to know, given talent, age, leadership, etc., which 10 guys you’d pick ahead of Wright. If Pablo is on your list I’ll fly to Chicago and pee all over Wrigleyville.
Your humbe servant,
MetsMan1980
this is a great idea actually.
First, I thought you didn’t get involved in politics?
Second, people in Iran are literally dying for the right to cast a meaningful vote and this is what you would have me do with mine? No thank you, sir.
I am going to do what I always do, which is to vote for all the Cubs for the NL team and only AL players with Irish surnames.
In the spirit of the All Star game- I give you a site by Cards fans, for Cards fans:

@MetsMan1980 – I missed you, MetsMan. Here are my ten guys I’d prefer on my team rather than a twink like Wright:
1. Johan Santana
2. Evan Longoria
3. Joe Mauer
4. Albert Pujols
5. Hanley Ramirez
6. Chase Utley
7. Ryan Braun
8. Zach Greinke
9. Adrian Gonzalez (like everyone else in baseball does, I completely forgot about him, RV)
10. Tim Lincecum
Here are some more:
11. Francisco Rodriguez
12. Joakim Soria
13. Chad Billingsley
Should I keep going?

@Weebs – Hawpe was going to be the guy who got bumped.
There’s a Mets fan on here?
Didn’t the Iowa Cubs knock them out of the wild card race last season?
http://clubhousecloset.blogspot.com/2006/09/david-wright.html
You’re list is ridiculous. First of all, you put a bunch of pitchers on there. I didn’t say you couldn’t, but since we limited the Wood thing to only pitchers, I would think you would stay with position guys.
Greinke – 1 hit wonder (his career record is 43-48)
Soria – has had one good full season (more than I can say for Greinke)
Gonzalez – career .281 hitter? Wright is 31 points higher and currently hitting like .350
Braun – Wright has better RBI and average with just about the same HR. And Braun plays in a bandbox
Hard isn’t it? You can’t even come up with half a dozen position players who you’d take over Wright. But hey, why vote for him if he’s a Met? Those New Yorkers already have too much going for them.
MetsMan1980
@MetsMan1980 – Everything you just said is completely stupid, so I’m not going to waste my time explaining to you (again) that wins and losses are a worthless statistic for evaluating pitchers. Or explaining that Miller Park doesn’t really favor hitters OR pitchers.
Oh, and unless a half dozen is > 7, I have already come up with a half a dozen position players I’d take over Wright.
How about 6 viable choices. I’ll give you a couple of the guys you chose, but you have to admit it’s a weak list. Come on – give me 10 position players. Try it.
@MetsMan1980 – I only get to pick three more? Where to start? So many to choose from. I guess I’ll go with:
Manny Ramirez
Joey Votto
Mark Teixeira
Honorable Mentions:
Miguel Cabrera
Grady Sizemore
Justin Morneau
Wright is a good player. No one is denying that. But I’m entitled to hate the fuckstick for no reason. God bless America.
@MetsMan1980 – 1) Mark DeRosa, 2) Mark DeRosa, 3) Mark DeRosa, 4) Mark DeRosa, 5) Mark DeRosa, 6) Bryce Harper
@Bad Kermit – Kerm – does this mean you don’t want that Wright jersey I have afterall – it has the Citi Field patch…
I think we’ll all have a good laugh when Wright’s season comes to an abrupt end from a ruptured spleen he suffered from taking violent anal from a 56 year old German callboy named Stosh in the back alley of a Bennigan’s behind a dumpster.
Ok. I actually respect that respond to an extent. If you agree to take Manny off your list, I’ll agree that you’re not a totally ignorant idiot. Fair?
@Curtis G – Awesome.
@MetsMan1980 – Why would I take off one of the greatest right-handed hitters in the history of the game?
I don’t know – maybe because he’s a cheater and because he isn’t currently playing? And he’s old!
@Grow Stubs Grow – No, I’ll still take it to wash my car.
@MetsMan1980 – What does that matter? I only get these guys for today’s game, or something? I like how you keep changing the rules every time I come up with more players I’d rather have than Eyebrows.
The important thing is that no cubs get voted in. Maybe Soriano will get his ass in gear finally. I liked his stolen base vs Cleveland after his error. Maybe missing the all-star game will motivate him.
@Metsman1980
You can add Chipper Jones to the list.
Its too bad we can’t use Uggla for the AL ballot write-in
I believe that Manny will be back to play on July 3rd, well before the All Star Game on July 19.
I’m pleasantly surprised by the ephemeral love shown for my Padres’ Adrian Gonzales, one of two great players on a bad team (the other one is a pitcher the Cubs need).
@CactusMcHarris –
The Cubs do not need another starting pitcher. They need someone who can get a clutch base hit, and a DEPENDABLE relief pitcher.
It would be a luxury to have another good starting pitcher, but it isn’t by any means something they NEED.
I find a disturbing lack of votes for AL superstar catcher Gregg Zaun…have you even seen his web site?
http://greggzaun.com/
Whatevr it takes to beat Dusty’s team….and beating them they are.
Hahaha! Not a bad website. Is that “Rush”???
