I was at that 23-10 game in ’87. The afternoon was made longer by the fact that Ronnie Woo Woo came around to where we were sitting in the right-center bleachers and sit right next to us for a solid 2 innings. Between that and the shitty game, I thought I prepared to witness my old man committing a homocide that afternoon.

I remember a play….I think when he was still on the Mets, when we had Dykstra in a rundown between third base and home. The third baseman tried to flick the ball to the catcher, but Dykstra stuck his elbow in the air and deflected it, then trotted home. It was too long ago and I was too young to have clear memories of all the details, but I remember clenching my teeth and filling my heart with hatred. It was such a blatant play that even Steve Stone displayed visible emotion (other than his normal sense of smug self-satisfaction) and bitched about it Harrelson-like for the next half inning.
