I don’t know what it is, but I have absolutely no interest in Spring Training this season. Maybe it’s the fact that there are basically only two position “battles” going on this spring, one of which includes two guys who couldn’t get into a rated R movie if they stood on each other’s shoulders and wore a trenchcoat and fedora. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m still annoyed that I watched more of the 2008 postseason than the entire Cubs roster did. Maybe I’m baffled that Luis Vizcaino is on the Cubs while Jake Peavy is on the Padres. Whatever the case may be, I cannot be bothered with Spring Training this year.
I haven’t made any effort to tape or watch a single Spring Training game. I haven’t listened to the team on the radio. I’ve barely even troubled myself to look at box scores. When the Cubs signed Corey Koskie, I could barely manage a “Meh.”
I briefly considered watching Saturday’s game against the White Sox. When I checked the TV schedule and realized that the game wasn’t even televised, I expressed my chagrin by rolling over and taking a nap.
I cannot get fired up over pictures of So Taguchi signing autographs. I cannot muster even the tiniest bit of interest in who is and who is not playing in the World Baseball Classic. And unless Rocky Roquet is doing a remake of Logjammin’, I don’t want him on my television.
Is anyone else feeling this way, or have I just turned into a bad baseball fan?
