I Am Bored to Tears by Spring Training
I don’t know what it is, but I have absolutely no interest in Spring Training this season. Maybe it’s the fact that there are basically only two position “battles” going on this spring, one of which includes two guys who couldn’t get into a rated R movie if they stood on each other’s shoulders and wore a trenchcoat and fedora. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m still annoyed that I watched more of the 2008 postseason than the entire Cubs roster did. Maybe I’m baffled that Luis Vizcaino is on the Cubs while Jake Peavy is on the Padres. Whatever the case may be, I cannot be bothered with Spring Training this year.
I haven’t made any effort to tape or watch a single Spring Training game. I haven’t listened to the team on the radio. I’ve barely even troubled myself to look at box scores. When the Cubs signed Corey Koskie, I could barely manage a “Meh.”
I briefly considered watching Saturday’s game against the White Sox. When I checked the TV schedule and realized that the game wasn’t even televised, I expressed my chagrin by rolling over and taking a nap.
I cannot get fired up over pictures of So Taguchi signing autographs. I cannot muster even the tiniest bit of interest in who is and who is not playing in the World Baseball Classic. And unless Rocky Roquet is doing a remake of Logjammin’, I don’t want him on my television.
Is anyone else feeling this way, or have I just turned into a bad baseball fan?

I totally agree. I just hope that the team’s sale gets done soon so the Peavy talks can restart and hopefully get somewhere.
agreed. The start of the season will be here before you know it. At least you have MLB 2k9 to hold you over till the season actually starts.
ditto.
Feelin’ the exact same way. At least during the reg. season we get to watch enjoyable baseball, but even 162 of those is way too many to decide one extra home game during a 7 game series in October. Nothing that happens between now and May will even matter, so there’s just no reason to pay attention.
It comes out tomorrow, so Kerm has to deal with a day of masturbation and napping before that happens.
Seems about right. I think this what heppens when one simply expects the team to be good. Bring on the regular season already! For that matter, bring on October already.
That’s probably what most people do prior to the start of real baseball
I like the game of baseball, no matter if its spring or fall, minors or majors, last place or first place. I wouldn’t call yourself a bad baseball fan, though. Not even the play-by-play dudes can keep track of all these anonymous roster invitees wearing #78 on their backs.
I get a kick out of Pat Hughes when he starts making up names when a player comes in with 77 or 88 on their jersey and doesnt have a name on the back
Hear, Hear, Kerm.
Wake me up on the 6th of April.
6th of april? man, that WBC sucks dogballs. woo, we beat the team from the dominican republic! willikers guys, that sure was important enough to ruin the seasons of several great players!
cant this stupid thing die like the american love of soccer or the XFL? oh no, wait, we have to wait until Selig’s term is up. if the next commissioner either doesnt fix the crappy way its handled now or kill the dumb thing outright, i would be suprised.
The lack of BOBBY SCALES support is disheartening.
To say the least.
