The Cubs have apparently shipped Ronny Cedeno and Garrett Olson to the Seattle Mariners for former Mets reliever/swing man Aaron Heilman. I’m going to shamelessly name-drop here. I was Heilman’s R.A. when he was down at Notre Dame, and he’s one of the nicest, most level-headed people I’ve ever SMOKED in darts. I’m glad, for his sake, that he’s out of the shithole that was Flushing, and that he doesn’t have to play in front of the apathetic Seattle crowd. However, it seems a bit much to basically have given up Felix Pie and Ronny Cedeno for Heilman even though, despite a rocky 2008 season, he has been quite good for the Mets out of the bullpen for the last few years.
If you have any extra tickets, Aaron, you know where to find me.

I don’t care who the Cubs got. I’m just happy they got rid of Cedeno & Pie
You were an RA… sweet.
Agree, especially concerning Ron Ce. Addition through subtraction.
Damn you’re fast, Kermit.
Ronnie Cedeno is DEAD.
This may be the best thing about this winter.
If Aaron gets 1 out, it will be worth it.
Narc.
The amount of happy that has wafted over my soul is immeasurable. Adios Ron Ce.
With the economy & subtraction of Cedeno’s contract the Cubs can now afford Bobby Abreu for a year
BK wrote up Aaron Heilman for FINGERBLASTING a girl on the lobby couch.
Heilman tried to fingerblast in Seattle but couldn’t find the zone.
What time will the Ronny Cedeno tribute show be airing on Comcast? I want to set the DVR.
Sorry,
To excited to check spelling.
Featuring Ronny Cedeno’s top 5 head-first slides into 1st base.
RA – Red Ass or Research Assistant? And if you were the latter, did you previously crew for Ed Hartwig?
Who plays third base when Aramis has his inevitable aches and pains?
@Jarritos –
I don’t know, but it least it won’t be Ronny Cedeno, the man once was caught stealing second base while advancing on a walk.
Adios, dumbass!
Currently Aaron Miles too@Jarritos -
Sure Ronny Cedeno was seen on many occasions eating paint chips in the dugout, but he had some serious range at SS. I hope Miles can do an adequate job backing up Theriot, I just can’t relax and trust Theriot yet.
Is anyone else really scared about our middle infield? I mean come on, Theroit, Fonty, and Miles. Your looking at a soft defense, and a weak offense in those two spots.

“Is anyone else really scared about our middle infield? I mean come on, Theroit, Fonty, and Miles. Your looking at a soft defense, and a weak offense in those two spots.”
You are suggesting that it was stronger when Ronnie was the backup, you douchbag? Don’t kill my high, Papa B.
The answer to our Backup at 3rd is Miles, but I also want to see them give Micah plenty of reps at 1st and 3rd during Spring.
Micah is not needed to sub in the outfield, but I don’t recall if he has ever played 3rd?
@Pure Unadulterated JOY –
Me the douchebag??? Maybe the douche that cleans your mothers vagina!!! Micah sucks dickk..hes like a AAAA player..too good for AAA and not good enough for the majors..He cant play the outfield, let alone 3rd base man. He can barely play 1st and 1st base alone. Cedeno had much better defense then theriot..and his hitting was getting better. Im in no way defending Cedeno, i wish jimbo would drop whatever he is eating and find some talent. btw dude…miles sucks dick..he has zero power. and dont expect him to hit like he did last year.
Oh God, Micah playing third would be a disaster. He throws left-handed, you idiot.
This is for Pure Unadulterated JOY
Not to mention he fields like a Foosball goalie to begin with. Here’s Micah at Triple-A Iowa last season:
Relax Big Papa,
I was making the point that you are a kill joy.
Regarding my elation over the Cedeno demise.
I’m not a fan of Miles, I am a fan of Theriot, but if you believe that the mental midget that was Cedeno was a better option, defensively or offensively than Theriot, I now know whom I am arguing with. Thanks. You win. Congrats.
Ronny Cedeno was just finding his stroke!
Anyway, I know having a left handed fielding 3rd baseman isn’t ideal, but I’m not sure why that’s so ridiculous?
Maybe Kermit can enlighten me? Why can’t we have a lefty at 3rd?
@Far Less Joy – It looks like everyone in this thread has eaten too much sugar. As a pure lefty myself, it’s tough as hell to even play second base, not to mention third. A lefty third baseman would need to field the ball and turn his entire body around (back to home plate) to get a throw over to first base. That takes a surprising amount of time. Just about the only places left-handed fielders can play comfortably are the outfield, first base, and pitcher. Lefty catchers have problems because, since the majority of batters are right-handed, it’s difficult to get a throw off to 2nd or 3rd without drilling the batter right in the back of the head.
Granted, it’s difficult.
However, Exhibit A: Jack Clements ’95 Phillies
G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG
88 322 64 127 27 2 13 75 197 22 7 3 — .442 .612 .394
Is that something you might be interested in?
How about those Internets?
Plus the “throw to second arguement” is false, consider all the interference calls, a lefty catcher would be around 80% even if the ball goes nowhere? But I get your point.
Fine, send Hill to Baltimore and get Moore back here, or send Vizcaino to Milwaukee and get Mcgahee back.
Fuck, NOOOOoooooooo!
Bako?
PapaDouche you see what you done did?
@Far Less Joy – As someone who caught a couple innings as a lefty, I can assure you the “throw to second” argument is true. Just as it’s tougher for a right-handed catcher to throw around a left-handed batter, vice-versa is true. And there are a lot more right-handed batters.
@Far Less Joy – And wait just a damn minute. You’re citing Jack Clements from the “’95 Phillies,” but fail to mention that he played for the 1895 Phillies. I’m pretty sure the game has changed a bit since then. Heck, even his B-R page even says that he’s the only left-handed catcher to have caught over 300 games in the MLB.
;>)
You’re taking this too seriously.
@Far Less Joy – That’s my MO. That, and making shit up entirely.
You mean like catching a couple innings as a lefty?
I want to see that glove.
or did you mean that you caught a couple innings right handed while being a lefty?
Note: The above questions are rhetorical.
Kermit, I can go harass Dolan for a while?
I don’t think I can stop you.
My bad. I didn’t mean any harm.
I really do enjoy the hell out of HJE and Desipio.
@Far Less Joy – Are we having the same conversation? No harm at all.
Cool.
@Far Less Joy –
im sorry dude. im glad to see cedeno go too..im just really worried aboout this team this year
No worries PapaB.
I must admit, I forgot that Micah was a true lefty. I thought he was like Fontenot. Fucking freek.
I am also concerned, but the death of Cedeno made me giddy.
The part of this that concerns me — apart from the fact that old school chum of BK’s or no, Heilman sucked hard for the Mets last year — is that Hendry apparently threw in Garret Olson, the prospect we just got in the Pie trade that was supposedly a key to a Peavy deal.
I’m not as down on Pie as most of the folks here, but even you guys can’t be happy that we essentially just turned Pie and Cedeno over for a mediocre bullpen arm, while possibly fucking over our chances of getting Peavy in the process.
@Reuschel’s Jowls – Yeah, but look at the three seasons before that.
Those are okay, but it’s hard to trust a guy who followed that up by falling off the fucking side of the earth last year.
If he turns out to be on the Brad Lidge Career Rejuvenation Plan, I’m all for it. But I have the sinking feeling that he drank Hendry under the table one night at a Stanford Hall SYR, so Big Jim signed him because he liked his Domer “moxie.”
And I still think giving up a piece of the alleged Peavy puzzle to get him was stupid. We didn’t have anyone else in the goddamned farm system to throw in the deal with Seattle?
