Cubs Going Extra Miles to Win it All

Cubs, Transactions

Ha ha ha ha ha! Get it? Because the Cubs just signed Aaron Miles? What does this mean? Well, I’m guessing The Pulse is getting shipped out of town, meaning that Jake Peavy trade isn’t as dead as Kevin Towers was pretending it was.

If Jim Hendry manages to trade Jason Marquis, land Peavy, and sign Milton Bradley, it’s been a great offseason. FINALLY, it’s getting interesting around here.

EDIT: Apparently, DeRosa is headed to Cleveland for two or three young pitchers. I would assume those two or three young pitchers are headed to San Diego as part of a Peavy deal.

ANOTHER EDIT: The DeRosa deal is official. Keep your fingers crossed that Peavy and Bradley will be Cubs by the end of next week.

Still no leadoff hitter. I do hope this means Peavy is on the way, but the grapevine has DeRosa being shipped to Cleveland for pitching prospects…

That could be traded to San Diego.

Like the moment of mid-post clarity I just had there?

Okay, Hendry, pull this off, you (magnificent?) fat bastard.

LOVIE: Alf is our leadoff hitter.

LOVIE: Alf is our leadoff hitter. He does some good things. He gets better each day. We’re working with him on taking walks, and picking good pitches to swing at. We believe in Alf, and we’ll go form there.

  4. Jarritos Says:

This is sweet because it will cause the rancor of everyone who thinks DeRosa is the best second baseman EVER!

Because I love it when the Cubs make good moves and piss off most of the fan base at the same time.

    …because… i hate our fan base…

    Yay!

Now the hangup is the ownership situation, apparently (wrt the Peavy deal, at least). This according to Bruce “I was here first, Aaron” Miles.

Anyone know how close the Cubs are to actually being sold?

  6. Frasier Crane Says:

Doesn’t sound like we got anybody special for DeRosa unless we roll these 3 guys over into something better.

  7. Adam B Says:

    Pay attention much, Frasier?

    Sweet Jeebus.

well, my blog has been wiped out already. carrie is a cruel mistress.

In your google ad box on the homepage there’s an ad running frequently for the L flag that the Cubs no longer fly after losses.

Somebody thinks this is hilarious and is selling it for $35 a pop. Only one problem, the flag is wrong. The real L flag was navy blue with a white L. It’s one thing to mock another team, but at least have the brains to do it correctly.

    This.

pay attention to what? that we got 3 no name players? What do you pay attention to? I posted my comments before the edits,Adam B.Einstein. Pay attention to that & write something worth reading.@Adam B -

  12. Mike D. Says:

I didn’t know they stopped with “L” flag.

    Also, Jarritos is right!

  13. Bad Kermit Says:

Man, you guys have been mean lately.

  14. Reuschel's Jowls Says:

Is Hendry putting together an infield or a team of Big Wheel racers?

We don’t need a team of seven-footers out there, but it would be nice to have a shot at snagging the occasional line drive that’s more than five feet off the ground…

If we get Peavy, the DeRosa trade is brilliant. Otherwise, it sucks. (“Sell high” is fine, but freakin’ get *something* when you sell, dammit.)
