Rockies to MLB: “We’re Not Serious About Winning”

Posted by Bad Kermit on Tue, Dec 30, 2008

Around the MLB, Cubs, Transactions

The Colorado Rockies are talking seriously with the Cubs about a deal that would send Jason Marquis to the Rockies and Luis Vizcaino to the Cubs. I’ll give you a minute to wipe the coffee off your monitor. Ready? Let’s move on. Vizcaino is not good, and he’s a drunk. What does he have going for him? He’s not Jason Marquis. Jim Hendry’s inability to move Marquis’ contract may be what’s been creating the logjam in the Cubs’ offseason. Who would have thought that bidding against oneself for Marquis’ services two offseasons ago would eventually come back to bite…one?

Me. Anyhow, trade him, cut Vizcaino, and go sign Milton Bradley so I can work on a sweet Monopoly post.

    DON’T MENTION HIS NAME!

  2. Ace Says:

Marquis would be a solid 4 or 5 on 90% of MLB teams. Just sayin’.

  3. Bad Kermit Says:

@Ace – Honestly, he’s actually a pretty solid 5 over here, too. He takes the ball every five days, and he gives you mostly mediocre, sometimes horrendous, and sometimes great starts. I’d have no problem with Marquis as the fifth starter, but not for the amount that he’s making, and certainly not if he prevents them from getting Bradley.

  4. Adam B Says:

So, the Cubs have signed Aaron Miles, are about to trade DeRosa, and are dumping Marquis’ salary in this deal. Is putting a talented, but fragile (in more ways than one) DH in right field really worth all this?

I know Bradley’s your guy, Kerm, but all this makes me uneasy…

  5. Bad Kermit Says:

@Adam B – See the post above. I don’t think all this is just for Bradley. They don’t have to trade DeRosa for Bradley. They probably DO have to trade him to get Peavy, though. I’d do all this and much more to get Bradley AND Peavy.

  6. Adam B Says:

I concur, good sir, despite my hasty comment to the Miles post.

    Carry on…

  7. Mark Says:

Marquis is arguably the best #5 in the league, for how much guff we give him.

I agree. But I have so much guff to give!

I just want to know what he’s doin’ with his right hand that’s makin’ the other guy smile.

It’s called, “lettin’ ‘em score a load of runs early”. It’s Jason’s specialty.
