I’m already annoyed with the 3-3 Notre Dame-Syracuse game, so I might as well finish watching it at the gym. Which is a less-embarrassing hat to wear right now? Cubs baseball, or Notre Dame football?

Both are far better than the Michigan sweatshirt I
was in to take miniHawk to soccer practice today.
At least you guys lost to a really good team. Syracuse. Fucking SYRACUSE. 14 seconds left, and the Irish are putting together a “drive” with no timeouts and 4th down.
Meanwhile, Northwestern is 9-3.
Notre Dame (sucks!)
Oh, dude, Notre Dame is WAY more embarrassing right now. The Cubs were at least the awesomest team in the N.L. up until the playoffs. Notre Dame is sucking week to week throughout the regular season. And what’s worse, we can’t even play horrible football in quiet dignity like the Stanfords and Indianas of the world. No, we get to be embarrassed on national TV, so that I can get real-time, streaming text message insults from ND haters as the game progresses and so that I can yell “Aldridge tackled for a 2 yard loss!” at the TV ten seconds before it predictably happens. My only consolation is that we’re bad enough to get bumped down an inferior bowl game, like maybe the second round of the division II tournament, where we might have our first post-season victory since 1994 or whenever it was.
As a proud Ball State alumnus, I have to say I’ve enjoyed the fact that my Cards have been the best college football team in Indiana by a wide margin this year.
Not that I have any real animus toward ND, in fact, quite the opposite. The Irish are generally my second-favorite college football team, and two of my immediate family members are Domers. But a few of the ND pals of my siblings have been quite insufferable whenever I have had the temerity to take a little pride in my school (apparently these folks believe that anyone not blessed enough to matriculate in South Bend should just live in a state of perpetual despair and shame), so I have to plead guilty to a little schadenfreude towards that segment of the ND alumni base over the developments from this football season. Just this once.
Again, I take no pleasure in ND’s general state of affairs. I like the Irish, and I’ve spent my fair share of nights on the floor of Club 23 and the Backer, and I hope the program gets going again soon.
@Flem – God Indiana sports suck this year.
