I have some good news and the greatest news ever. The bad news is that the Muskbag was surprisingly not that dumb this week. It was boring and inane, as usual, but not as obtuse as normal. Ready for the greatest news ever? The Muskbag now allows comments. COMMENTS! This is the greatest thing to happen to an already great thing since someone got the idea to add gum to their nuts (tee hee!). So, I’m giving Carrie the week off and focusing on here commenters. They are fantastic.

I do like the idea of going after Brian Roberts. But not at the expense of DeRosa. So if we can do it without giving up DeRosa I would like it.As far as Soriano goes Piniella shouldnt have to convince him of anything.Piniella is the Manager & doesnt need Sorianos approval to move him down in the line-up.Screw Soriano,he needs to do whats best for the team,as well as Piniella. We tried it & it didnt work well for the team.So we need to move him down,Period. We need to use the lead off spot for what its supposed to be used for.For a guy who can get on base with a good batting average & some speed. Not a hot & cold player, who hits a lead off homer occasionally & strikes out alot. You have your HR hitters in the 3-5 spot.We need to re-sign Wood & Dempster. If we can get Peavy great, but not at the expense of Dempster.I would rather have Dempster. GO CUBS! GOOD LUCK IN 2009! YOUR TRUE FANS WILL ALWAYS SUPPORT YOU!

There you go. A bunch of apostrophes and spaces for your comment. Go ahead and put them in wherever you feel like it. Also, if you would rather have Ryan Dempster than Jake Peavy, here is something else you might need.

First of all, I love this mailbag section. I’m happy to see a comments sections now too.

Me, too, commenter. Meeeeee too.

As for Lee, after watching his frustrations with his performance in game 3, watch for him to play well.

I love when people use “watch for him to ____________” to make themselves sound knowledgeable. If I understand his theory correctly, Lee will play well next year because he got mad for a split second while his team got swept out of the playoffs. Is that accurate? Watch for this commenter to get a crayon stuck up his nose.

you know as much as I would love it, the team will not be exactly the same next year, this is what needs to happen: Soriano needs to be moved in the lineup, him, lee, and fukudome need to get better, and we need to find someone in centerfield.

So, if they bat Alfonso Soriano 9th, if he, Derrek Lee, and Kosuke Fukudome magically get better at baseball, and if Waldo plays center, the Cubs will win the World Series next year. But wait. He’s still typing.

jesusbig1 continued:
WE can win with the exact same team we had this year, will it be the exact same team? no, we just need to play better, you know why? because 9=8

Wat?

I agree we need to unload all that was mentioned above and Peavy and Roberts would be nice additions, but wouldn’t it be nice to push a button and have everyone hit during the playoffs? Is that just too much to ask?

Yes.

mavericks2 wrote:
Do you seriously want a left handed white sammy sosa? Without the heart that sammy had too??

Not only do I want that, but I would pay upwards of a nickel a gander to see a left-handed, white Sammy Sosa born without a heart.

mavericks2 continued:
I may not be right but i heard that B.J. Upton is a free agent.

cha ching!!

if thats true there is our answer to center field

B.J. Upton? The 23-year-old currently slugging .826 in the postseason? The guy who also stole 44 bases in 2008? Yeah, I think he’s unavailable.

commenter wrote:
Everyone saying that Lee is past his time seems to forget that he was the only one in the playoffs who hit (over .500). If the rest of the team actually got on base before he came to bat the games would have been completely different.

True. Lee would have hit into a lot more double plays.

Cubs have to make alot of trades – should be able to get some good plalyers for trading some good players. Leadership is needed – and spirit….losing six straight playoff games – you need a major change…not just a “fine tuning”…big change..just liike the USA needs – a Change!!!

When this guy woke up this morning, was he thinking, “Where is the best place to anonymously post my generic political rhetoric? I know! The comments section of the Cubs.com Mailbag!” Then he rubbed giardiniera juice in his eyes, labeled his jars of piss, and checked his private messages on NSBB.

Its going to be a interesting off season, I just hope 2009 isn’t filled with question marks.

“I disagree!”

commenter wrote:
I’m proposing a trade, and I hope Jim Hendry and the Cubs front office will at least consider it.

I bet when Jim Hendry gets drunk, he logs onto Cubs.com, checks out the trade proposals of the armchair GMs, and calls around to try to make those trades. It’s his version of drunk dialing. And I bet it’s HILARIOUS.

IF WE ARE REALLY GONNA GO AFTER SOMEONE THIS OFFSEASON AND MAKE A BIG PUSH FOR THE WORLD SERIES. GO AFTER HANLEY RAMIREZ, he is signed to a great contract and u no the marlins dont want to spend the money for him.

Yes, and that’s exactly WHY the Marlins signed him to such a great- Oh, forget it.

Jake Peavy is a very good pitcher. However, he had a dismal year, so go after A.J. Burnett either by trading for him signing him if he opts. out of his contract Make Peavy your fall-to option if Burnett passes.

Instead of giving away a bunch of talented prospects, deal Ramirez. He’s too nonchalant and a carbon copy of A-Rod come Oct. Move DeRosa to 3rd and start ‘Little Babe Ruth”, A.K.A Mike Fontenot at 2nd. He’s a lefty, he’s young and exciting he knows Theriot from LSU and not to mention he could be a 30-30 dude. Chase Utley like? Speaking of Ryan, he’s our lead-off man; not Sosa2 (#12), not the Japanese dud, not Brian freakin’ Roberts who I wish everyone would shut up about ’cause he’s not that good. Not Hanley ,or Sosa3 as I call him. The Riot is the obvious choice 4 any non-brain-dead, completely mentally retarded, incapacitated, strung up on crack, vegetable. Woody & Dempster stay-period! It’s kinda funny actually, last year and 05 & 06 when he sucked big ,expleti

You have to be a special kind of crazy to not realize that your completely ludicrous rant was cut off in mid-word. And Kabalzo is that kind of crazy.

It really doesn’t matter. The renewed billy goat curse will doom us for another 100 years. I say let all the superstars go as they obtain their free agency. Let the payroll drop into say the 25 to 30 million range. Now the Ownership can drop the beer prices to normal levels so we will all still come to Wrigley and we will never again destroy ourselves hoping for a World Series for as long as we live. Oh yeah…………shut down the farm system too. Why spend money to support the future when there isn’t one!

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

since obama is from chicago, maybe the cubs just need change. no need to define the change, just change in general. no one needs 8 more years of jim hendry. i hear he was responsible for the concrete falling from the roof of wrigley field. maybe they could find a new GM. if he has a few years of experience as a scout (community organizer) and then spent 3 years as a single A GM, spending most of that time writing books about himself and lobbying to become the big league GM, he would be perfect. to top it off, any associations with jose canseco, rafael palmero, or shoeless joe jackson will be ignored by the national media and embraced by his followers. and if he can’t get the job on his own, he can get mickey mouse and tony romo to throw in an extra vote. just a thought that seems to be consistent with what’s going on in the windy city.

We went a long way with you for that one, commenter. A very long way.

First of all you can not sign any expensive free agents. Trade D-Lee to Giants for Matt Cain (get some good young pitching like the sox. Put Hoffpauir at First , D-Lee hit 5 homers after the all star break, maybe the worst
in the League.Hoffpauir will give you better numbers , and produce like Soto did after Tripple A. I know he has a no-trade put he can go to California. Sign Mark Kotsay a good 4th outfielder-lefty . He hit 3 homers against the cubs. Bat Soriano 5th,Ramirez 3, Hoffpauir or Soto 4th . Get Brian Roberts to lead off , for Marshall and Pie.Now you have 3 more lefties in your line-up. I wish you could trade Soriano ,but I doubt it. He said cub fans be patient, why didnt he take blame like Derosa did, saying that he stunk, but he never would say that.

I just- You can’t- Lee definitely wasn’t the worst in the- And if Kotsay wasn’t allowed to FACE Cub pitching- And why would the Orioles make that trade- And Soriano didn’t-

I’m going to lie down with a damp washcloth on my forehead for a while.

Bring up Coyie Hill, Jason Dubois and the Iowa second baseman (Bobbie something-or other, but he hit .320 this year) to provide some enthusiam that was missing during this year’s playoff games.

Bobby Scales!!! There are actually people who are serious about him. Also, Bobby Scales is thirty. THIRTY.

On to the Outfield, we have enough minor league and some young big league talent to get a guy like Josh Hamilton or Raul Ibanez who could help right away. Both the rangers and mariners want to get younger for cheap and that might be their answer. ex: rich hill, felix pie,sam fuld, chad gaudin for one of these guys

A bunch of crap for a guy who will be in consideration for the AL MVP on a horrible team. GET THE RANGERS ON THE PHONE!

I see now why the Muskbag has been so bad. I also understand why everyone laughs at Cubs fans for being ridiculous. A large percentage are. I am once again enlightened by the Muskbag.
