Oh, God. I was tempted to do this with a Muskbag post, but decided against it. Big news. With this post, HJE has just moved into quadruple digits in post count. This is the big 1,000. That’s an awful lot of wasted time. In that time (well, at least since I turned on Google Analytics):
- The most popular posts (other than the Shoutbox, of course), were as follows:
1. The Hendry luncheon
2. The Eddie Vedder song
3. The Izturis asshole rubbing
4. The e-mail battle with the Mend My Heart Guy
5. The B126 entry for Todd Hundley (he edged out Juan Pierre by about 400 pageviews) - Other than the various incarnations of “hire jim essian,” the most popular searches that landed you at HJE were as follows:
1. “someday we’ll go all the way”
2. “ted lilly kill”
3. “bottom 126″
4. “#70 damon berryhill hirejimessian” (how the hell someone remembered Berryhill’s spot on the B126, remembered the name of the site, and couldn’t find it is beyond me)
5. “vorp donkey”
6. “flannj” (quit Googling yourself, flan; you’ll go blind)
7. “bocaj blog” (awesome)
8. “store shop” (I would love to know what those people were actually trying to buy)
9. “shawn estes bottom 126″
10. “jim edmonds collie”
11. “rick wrona ricky gutierrez” (what?)
12. “lazy blogging video” (appropriate)
13. “18. dave veres”
14. “jim essian speech” (if anyone has a copy of one of his speeches, I want it)
15. “worst 126 cubs” - HJE has gotten by far the most traffic from Desipio (thanks, Andy), followed by the old Fire Lou Piniella, Google, Prosportsdaily.com, and (gulp) Bleed Cubbie Blue.
- The most visitors HJE has had in a day was on January 18, 2008, when the aforementioned Hendry post went up. First runner-up was on March 28, 2008, when Part Four of our Preseason Round Table, a Sweet Uncle Lou post about Ron Stilanovich, and a FNF between the IGH Guy and the Mend My Heart Guy slugged it out. Second runner-up was on September 18, 2008, the day after the Eddie Vedder song went up.
- We’re well over the 10,000 comment mark. You guys are at 9,174 comments on the WordPress commenting system, and that’s not including the four months I foolishly had us using the Disqus comment system (sorry). Our top commenter (myself excluded) from the Disqus months was JackB with 145, and the top commenter over here on WordPress is CT followed, in order, by Bocaj, BigFlax, StPatrick, and TDubbs. The number of comments on the Shoutbox? Well. I have no idea, and probably don’t want to find out.
- The most commented-on posts under the WordPress comments system are as follows:
1. Barrett to Puck the Fadres
2. You Gone, White Sox
3. Meet the Mets; Their Writers Suck, Too
4. “You Make Me” Juan “to Puke” Pierre
5. Sweet Uncle Lou’s Friday Roundup: The “Anyone But Podsednik” Edition (BONUS: Includes A-Ram Baller’s amazing descent into madness)
It’s been a blast getting to 1,000 posts. Thanks to everyone who has been here from the beginning or who has joined up along the way. To 2,000 we go.

Congratulations, Kermit. You founded HJE in October of 2006, so you’re averaging 1.3 posts per day. Most of them have been tremendous. CT commented on my blog about Royko that it was amazing he wrote 6 days a week, and maintained the quality he did. Same with you.
1000 posts?
When in the hell did you start posting articles here?
1,000 posts. I am still in shock after finding out that HJE has articles, and now I see there are 1,000 of them!
Enjoy your heaping helping of FACE, morph.
Re: Damon Berryhill – it was probably some idiot who couldn’t figure how to get to the actual page since only like ten of the players have their articles linked on the main B126 page.
Congrats on 1000. Does that mean the BCB post was 999? You know what 999 flipped upside down is? Huh? Do ya?
Here’s to a thousand more, mang.
Congrats, BK. Really enjoy the blog and podcasts. Keep up the great work.
@Keith – I swear I’ll get around to updating all those posts and fixing all those links. I swear it!
Wow….That was a heated blog comment exchange. All over Juan Pierre. What was I thinking?
I predict it’ll take 10,000 before Kerm finishes the T79.
Congrats on the 1000 posts, and the 4 good ones.
Just kidding.
There were only 2 good ones.
I’ve got the most comments? Really?
I’m honestly shocked to receive this honor. I had no idea. None whatsoever. I’m not kidding. I’d like to thank Bad Kermit for making it all possible.
As Top Commenter, I feel I should do something to help celebrate. So, here’s a link to what is probably the greatest post in the history of the internet.

Nice work, Kerm.
Congratulations – that’s a lot of posts. You would probably have a pretty good line – maybe like .357/.462/.653? I think that’s good – I’m not a huge stats guy so I may have fucked that up. I even checked out some of the links to your most visited posts – funny shit.
One thing tho – I read your other post from today and having time to kill, I clicked on the link to the Building a Cubs Champion … link. Before reading your post. WTF is that bullshit – is that dude for real? I actually read (part of) the damn thing and some of the comments. No wonder people think Cub fans are morons.
A truly “grand” feat you have accomplished here, Kermit! Though, I must disagree with your assessment of it being “time wasted”.
The internet is going to exist long after we are all gone. Cubs fans from generations in the future will look back at us, the pioneers of the e-movement. Er, that is, provided the Cubs still have fans. Point is, your work will always be remembered.
Whether the Cubs still have fans or not, your work always will have fans, some not even born yet. So, kind sir, I humbly suggest to you that it is not a waste of time, rather, time well spent!
Congratulations, and thank you for your contributions to all us morans.
You should get a job
I’m feeling kind of creeped out. I think I need to get a different ID. How about drunkenbumfrompalatine?
Congratulations on the 1000 Kerm, when I get fired for wasting time at work you’ll be to blame.
If the Hendry lunch is the most popular post ever on HJE, I deserve a cut of the ad revenues.
My people will be caling your people Kerm.
PEN IS RIGHT!!!!
@TDubbs –
Yeah, sure thing. You gonna supply me with the required cortisone? Sweet!
Asshead dickhole.
A-Ram Baller’s decent into madness…Annnnnd there’s the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
Reading 1,000 HJE posts has added a lot to my life. What it has added is of course hard to define…
Very good – like this a lot – Cheers!
