If they "literally broke down and cried" over this game, what would happen if an important game, such as the Pro Bowl, were cancelled? Would he go Chris Benoit on his kid?

I've never understood the argument why THIS GAME needs to be saved... I went to Cooperstown in 1998 and watched a game between two teams i didn't know with a few other people in the stands.. There was no admission and i couldn't tell you anything about the game, but it was nice being able to sit there and just watch a game. I doubt those games will be gone after the HOF game is retired.

I about kicked in my monitor when this clown was quoted in one of the dailies yesterday, whining about how the "Hall of Fame game was bigger than the 2008 Cubs."

No, it's not, you fool. There are, literally, millions of Cub fans out there who have been waiting their entire lives for a team like this, a season like this. The results of this season are far more important than risking players' health in an exhibition game in the middle of the season that doesn't count for squat. As we saw last week, all it takes is a single stray pitch to potentially alter an entire team's fortunes.

I'm with Kerm... play the damn thing at the end of spring training, or if it's too cold then, near the end of the regular season with two teams that are out of the race.

Japan - 40-50K attend each game, big marketing ups for MLB, and an airport (and a mistake)
China - Spring training (over 10K attendance), no season impact, and an airport
Mexico - 20K+ attend the games, marketing ups, and an airport
Memphis - Civil rights game is the end of spring training, no season impact, and an airport.
Orlando - covered
Puerto Rico - This was the Expos part-time home by choice, so it was a normal road trip game that counted. And an airport.

Move your city to a warmer climate, so the game can be played during spring training .. and maybe get an airport.

What an Elias-Coblentz.

“Major League Baseball can schedule games in Japan, China, Mexico, Memphis, Orlando and Puerto Rico, so isn’t it likely that they could find a way to hold a game in Cooperstown?”

I’m pretty sure that Japan, China, Mexico, Memphis, Orlando and Puerto Rico have a fucking airport that can handle planes with more than four fucking people in them.

“Major League Baseball can schedule games in Japan, China, Mexico, Memphis, Orlando and Puerto Rico, so isn’t it likely that they could find a way to hold a game in Cooperstown?”

Well they are in those other countries for a full week or so before and have a week or so after until they play again. Orlando is a home series for Tampa and more people show up to that game than they do at their home park unless Toby Keith or some other jackass is playing right after the game. You can actually fly right into Puerto Rico and not have a 3 hour bus trip there and back to get to the park. Also for years there was a week or so for players to get bombed on a train for a couple days to get there, then get bombed on a train for a couple days to get to their next game before they wore out every hooker they’d pick up at the stations across the country. They weren’t scheduling them during an extremely long season when teams are already on a tough road trip.

“16. The $10-12 Seats: Where else in America can close to 10,000 people sit and watch a game from seats that are practically on the field and only cost $10-12?”

Any spring training game. Most games at the Cell…I rarely think they draw 10,000 people unless it’s Hawk Harrelson fake foam hook nose night.

It's the sense of entitlement that irks me. Why is upstate NY deserving, but downstate Georgia, or side state Kansas, or other side state New Mexico is not? If any of his pathetic arguments are valid, then major league baseball should forgo it's traditional homes and barnstorm around the country.

It's the entitlement .. well that .. and the fact that the Cubs were slated to play this year. I definitely could see the merit in his arguments if the match-up had been between the drunken geniuses and the big Ned Yost's heads.
