Fuk the Two Hole
It’s time, Lou. I know you’re going to tinker with lineups all year. With Dusty, that characteristic was annoying, because he could never figure out the right one. With you, I suspect you’ll get the lineup right sooner rather than later. Now is the time to take advantage, though, Lou. Derrek Lee is hitting like it’s 2005, Alfonso Soriano is hitting like he’s 2005, Ryan Theriot is hitting like Ryan Theriot, and Kosuke Fukudome is on base more often than he isn’t. It’s time to Fuk the two hole.
It’s been suggested before, but with Lee swinging the bat like he is, you absolutely have to take advantage, Lou. If Fukudome and Lee cool off, go ahead and tinker. But right now, Lou, you absolutely have to get Fukudome on base in front of Lee as many times as possible.
While you’re at it, Lou, you might as well pounce on Mark DeRosa’s .409 on-base percentage. I know you don’t care what Soriano thinks, and I know you don’t care what the media thinks. So, strike while the iron is hot. Get your good guys to the top of the lineup, and get your bad guys out of there.
DeRosa
Fukudome
Lee
Ramirez
Soriano
Soto
Johnson/Pie
Theriot
You’re coming off a solid weekend, Lou. Keep the momentum rolling with a lineup set up to score in bunches.

Second!
seconded.
Thirded.
Can we keep Johnson out of the lineup? And, if we’re tinkering and admitting that Theriot is not a good major league player, can we get Cedeno some ABs?
Just asking.
Theriot/Cedeno is the Mountain Dew/Crab Juice decision of 2008.
Fourthed.
Ick! I’ll just take the crab juice!
Which one is the crab juice?
It doesn’t matter does it?
My only problem with this lineup is… Fuk will drive in more runs in the 5 hole than Sorry-ano will.
Funny how I was thinking Fukudome should be in the two-spot so I came on here to comment, and you were right on. Lou is losing the games for the cubs. Opening day was a perfect example when he brought Wood in during a non-save situation and then walked Fielder to get to Braun.
Respectfully, I think everyone is making too much of the lineup. Batting lineups matter very little.

In addition, Kosuke comes from a background where #2 hitters are meant to ‘give themselves up’ quite a bit. I’d be worried he would be giving up at bats just to try to move a guy to 2nd. Plus, you have to admit loving to see him bat with guys on base all the time. He was a middle of the order slugger in Japan. Derosa batting 2nd would be beneficial, if only you’d be giving him more at bats than Reed/Theriot/Crap etc.
Like hari-kiri?
You’ll be sorry you’ve messed with perfection. Some day soon in a 13-8 loss, Soriano will go 3 for 5 with 2 HR’s and 6 RBI’s. You’ve been warned!
I’m Fork, and I approve of this message.
There’s no set-in-stone quality to a Lou Piniella lineup. there’s enough good hitters on this team to where he can juggle several spots based upon who is hot at the moment.
DeRo in the leadoff spot won’t work once he reverts to the norm, but for now, why not?
In fact, the only two guys I probably wouldn’t move all year, barring injuries, are A-Ram and Derecles.
The only problem with DeRo in the leadoff spot is that means we have to continue to watch him kicking routine ground balls all over the infield every day…
