Twins Interested in Monroe

“Aww, I really liked it here!”Rotoworld is reporting that the Minnesota Twins are interested in acquiring Craig Monroe from the Cubs for a player to be named later. Early reports indicate that Monroe will actually be expected to play baseball.

That said, it’s time to look fondly back at the Craig Monroe Era.

August 23, 2007: Monroe acquired from the Detroit Tigers for a PTBNL (Clay Rapada).

August 24, 2007: Monroe makes his Cubs debut, coming in for Carlos Marmol on a double switch. Monroe gets a hit in his one at-bat during the 6-2 Cubs win over the Diamondbacks. It is the last time the Cubs will beat the Diamondbacks in 2007.

August 25, 2007: Monroe makes his first start as a Cub. Down a run to the Diamondbacks with 2 outs and 2 men on in the 6th inning, Monroe flies out to center field. In the top of the 8th inning, with 2 men on, 2 outs, and the Cubs down 3-1, Monroe strikes out looking.

September 5, 2007: Monroe makes his Cubs debut in center field in an 8-2 Cubs win over the Dodgers at Wrigley Field. He hits the cycle on strikeouts, swinging and looking.

September 30, 2007: Monroe plays his (likely) final game as a Cub in an 8-4 loss to the Reds on the last day of the season. Monroe successfully prevents any starters from getting injured on the last day of the season.

October 2, 2007: The Cubs set their postseason roster, leaving Monroe off it in favor of Ronny Cedeno. In a surprise move, Monroe doesn’t immediately retire from the game of baseball.

So long, Craig. Maybe you’ll be missed.

UPDATE: The Monroe trade is official. Get John McDonough on the phone. We’re setting Craig Monroe Jersey Day for June 10th vs. Atlanta.
