CHICAGO–After only 10 games as a Cub, catcher Rob Bowen, who was acquired from the San Diego Padres in exchange for Michael Barrett, was designated for assignment on Monday. Cubs manager Lou Piniella has been very vocal regarding his need for a 12-man pitching staff. Bowen was designated to make room for right-hander Billy (Stupid) Petrick.
