I’d like to leave the poor, senile old Hawk Harrelson alone, but this is just ~~too much~~ B.S. Below is Hawk’s interpretation of the (correctly made) obstruction call during Sunday’s game. Thanks to Brant Brown at Desipio for the link.

no, they cater to themselves! if they cared about there “audience” they would have clearly described the whole play that there “fans” didn’t have the liberty to see, not have sworn, not have disrespected the other players and umps, apologized when they were found wrong and not be such douches!

I heard their version on Sportsnite last night and just found it silly. Leave it to the Hawkeroo and his dorky sidekick to immediately jump to the conclusion that the Sox were getting hosed by the call. On my way to work this morning, Pat Hughes was on WGN. He read the rule from the rulebook and the umps got it right. Surprisingly (considering the way the rest of the month has gone), this call did not go against the Cubs. It might even have hurt the umps a little in the cockles of their tiny little hearts to make the correct call. I can only hope the worm has turned and the umpires are ready to start being impartial again, at least as far as the Cubs are concerned.

At least Len and Bob waited to hear the umpire’s ruling. They didn’t immediately freak out like the other side did. If the White Sox really want to clean house, they should start with their announcers. Being a homer is no crime, but being an uninformed douchebag homer should be. Ronnie’s a homer and clueless, but as far as I know, he pretty much lets Pat make the calls. Ron might ramble sometimes, but at least he’s not an asshat. Just don’t mention the Mets.

i just left some sarcasm-laced comments on hawk’s blog that Garczar showed me, hopefully they are accepted. you all should do the same, it’s fun to make fun of someone while saying “nice” things…really fun.

Santo is as big of a homer as you can get. He also played almost his whole career with the Cubs.

I would agree that Santo has fallen off in the last year or two, but his issues are more what I like to politely term “senior moments” where he forgets something or rambles a bit.

Hawk is a whole different thing. He’s ignorant of the game and carries some imaginary chip on his shoulder I can’t imagine where it came from, but it’s there. His call of the obstruction is a classic example. At no point did he actually describe the obstruction (while at the same time claiming he had a better view than the umpires), he never tried to understand the rules, and he didn’t (unless it happened way later on and I missed it) even admit he was wrong.

I turned on Comcast when this was going on yesterday to hear Hawk flip out. His incredible stupidity even surprised me. How him and DJ and all of the Comcast booth could not see the obstruction at second for over 15 minutes until Hawk asked Bob in the next booth about it during the break is uncomprehendable. WGN had that replay shown immediately.
