Damnit, Kevin Orie, why weren’t you good? You started off so well, putting up some excellent numbers in your rookie season in 1997. So why did you get so putrid so quickly?

Orie was supposed to solve the Cubs’ problems at third base. Instead, he fielded like the ball was laced with a hantavirus and, after his rookie season, he hit like he was dating the opposing pitcher. The Cubs spun him off to Florida in 1998, but brought him back in the 2002 season for another chance. Orie did nothing with it, showing the disappearance of any power he once had, and was released by the Cubs during Spring Training of 2003.

Low Point: When the Cubs sent you to Florida, they got Felix Heredia back in the trade. Felix Heredia! Thanks a lot for that one, Kevin.

Did You Know? Orie was a finalist in the 1997 Rookie of the Year voting. He lost the award to Scott Rolen. And that is the closest the two have been in their career paths.
